RTX Configuration 2 - Critical System Settings

The following settings must be applied for stable RTX operation.

Disable Windows Memory Diagnostics

If you run RTX for an extended period on Windows 10 with Windows Memory Diagnostics enabled, a memory access violation may occur and trigger a blue screen, causing the PC to restart.

Windows Memory Diagnostics should be disabled to prevent Windows from unpredictably compressing or moving memory.

To disable Windows Memory Diagnostics, follow these steps.

  1. Search for “Task Scheduler” from the Windows Start Menu and run it.

  2. In the left pane, expand Task Scheduler Library\Microsoft\Windows\MemoryDiagnostic.

  3. In the center pane, right-click the RunFullMemoryDiagnostic entry and select Disable.

  4. Similarly, right-click the ProcessMemoryDiagnosticEvents entry and select Disable.

  5. Restart the PC.

Disable Hyper-V

When you start RTX on Windows 10 with Hyper-V enabled, a blue screen will occur and the PC will restart. Hyper-V must be disabled. Follow the steps below to disable Hyper-V.

  1. Search for “Turn Windows features on or off” from the Windows Start Menu and run it.

  2. Uncheck “Hyper-V”.

  3. Restart the PC.

Device Guard and Credential Guard

On Windows 10 Enterprise with Device Guard or Credential Guard enabled, issues may occur such as the RTX installer returning an error or a blue screen occurring when RTX is started. Device Guard and Credential Guard must be disabled.

Device Guard and Credential Guard are automatically disabled by disabling Hyper-V as described above.

Disable Fast Startup

If the RTX Startup Type is set to Automatic, the Windows Fast Startup option must be disabled.

To disable Fast Startup on Windows 10, select Power Options in the Control Panel. In the “Choose what the power buttons do” tab, click on “Change settings that are currently unavailable” and uncheck the “Turn on fast startup” option.

Disable x2APIC mode

On Windows 10 with x2APIC mode enabled, issues may occur such as the RTX subsystem cannot boot.

To disable x2APIC mode on Windows 10, go to the BIOS settings screen and select the setting related to x2APIC mode and set it to disabled.

For additional information to go to the BIOS settings screen, please refer to the manual of the PC.

Disable Intel Virtualization Technology and VT-d

It is recommended to disable Intel Virtualization Technology and VT-d from the BIOS if the CPU supports Intel Virtualization Technology.

If Intel Virtualization Technology or VT-d is enabled, RTX Subsystem may not start and other problems may occur.

To disable Intel Virtualization Technology on Windows10, go to the BIOS settings screen and select the setting related to Intel Virtualization Technology and set it to disabled.

Disable Automatic Windows Update

Windows Update for PCs with RTX installed must be managed.

This is because Windows Update may cause incompatibility between RTX and Windows.

Be sure to disable automatic Windows Update and check the compatibility of RTX with Windows before installing RTX according to the following page.
